The bulk of the current diet consists primarily of foods that leave an acidic residue within the body. This occurs when food is metabolized and broken down, leaving certain chemical and metallic residues which yield either acid or alkaline potentials of pH for the body.

The human body genuinely wants to seek balance, in all forms – GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease) is simply a result of a long-standing pH imbalance.

When too much acidic food is consumed, the stomach can’t digest it completely. The excess undigested food then turns into acid waste, which causes stomach spasms or twitching leading to an increase in stomach gas. This gas increase forces open the valve between the esophagus and stomach allowing stomach acid to retreat into the esophagus.

Over time this can lead to pain and difficulty swallowing and the feeling of something stuck in the throat.

To counteract the nighttime acid reflux you can try sleeping in a more elevated position (use a larger pillow) and get on an acid reflux diet.

Although few see the connection, acid reflux can also have asthmatic symptoms when the acidic reflux is aspired into the lungs causing damage. Many patients also accuse chronic dry cough, difficulty swallowing and the feeling of a solid lump like something stuck in the throat.

Curing the asthma symptoms means curing the acid reflux – GERD symptoms with an acid reflux diet.

This is a symptom of the damage the highly corrosive acid in your stomach has caused to your lungs. The acid rises into the esophagus and pharynx and in time damages the throat muscles. Unable to close and operate properly, the pharynx sometimes allows acid to spill into the lungs. Often this is also accompanied by pain in the throat and the feeling of a solid lump like something is stuck in the throat.

Left untreated, this could lead to serious consequences. To counteract the corrosive acid and to cure your acid reflux you should change your eating habits and restore your body’s natural pH levels with an alkaline diet. Also cut back on highly acidic foods and beverages like coffee and alcohol.

As alarming as it sounds, many doctors can’t place a correct cause of this and dismiss it as not important. But it’s extremely important and very real to individuals experiencing this.

The real cause behind this is the stomach acid that’s more corrosive than the battery acid started affecting the muscles in the throat. Left untreated, it’s very dangerous. Impairing the proper function of the pharynx will cause food and liquids going the wrong way, in the lungs and comes with pain and discomfort.

What worked for me? First there’s the alkaline diet that lowered the acidity levels throughout my body. You also have to cut back on any acidic foods and drinks like coffee, which is a major factor. To temporarily ease the pain, the only thing that worked was some natural eatable tablets that included Althaea officinalis (common marshmallow) and thyme extract. The pain went away in minutes. Also some vitamin D3 and Calcium worked wonders.

You may be experiencing choking and gagging while eating, and coughing mostly after a meal. Sometimes you cough out white mucus or phlegm – that’s a sign your lungs are affected as well.

What you’re most certainly experiencing is acid reflux. Your body has become over-acidic and the highly acidic fluids (like gastric acid) are doing harm to your stomach and throat. A first step to curing this is to get on the alkaline diet and alkalize your body.

Normally, the stomach is protected by a coating layer from the hydrochloric acid. That layer can replace itself if damaged within hours. But if your body is under stress it’s job is more difficult.

Add to that all the chemicals, preservatives and processed foods you’re eating and you have a situation when the stomach is having a tough time digesting the food and is working overtime producing acid. In the same time, the stress you’re putting on your body slows down the process replacing the protective layer of your stomach.

So you end up having multiple times the normal amount of acid in your stomach and little to none protective layer against it.

Ending stomach pain after eating calls for dietary and lifestyle changes. Going for prescription drugs is not recommended because of the side effects they have and because they don’t treat the real problem, only mask it for a short while.

So what does Heartburn feel like?

• a sharp burning pain located behind the breast bone
• a stabbing like sensation in the back and/or left arm
• a feeling of pressure in the chest
• sometimes also having difficulty breathing and/or swallowing
• a feeling like what you’ve eaten rises up to the throat
• sore throat usually accompanied by a hot, sour, acidic, or bitter tasting fluid at the back of the throat and/or in the mouth

Why does Heartburn feel like it does?

The acidic contents of the stomach getting up to the lower esophagus are causing the sensation of heartburn. This occurs mostly after having large meals, bending or lying down immediately after a meal. An unbalanced diet that’s consisting of many foods that contain preservatives, chemical colorants and generally GMOs (genetically modified organisms) are major factors to the heartburn symptoms.

But in rare cases part of your stomach that protrudes into your chest can cause problems such as:

• severe chest pain
• difficulty with swallowing
• obstruction of your esophagus

I myself have sometimes the feeling of something stuck in my throat, caused mostly by my acid reflux coming up into my esophagus. Treating symptoms requires keeping a hiatal hernia diet and changing your lifestyle accordingly.

A person who suffers from sleep apnea may also complain of frequent headaches, dry mouth, and a sore throat in the morning, heart palpitations, urinating throughout the night,  chronic fatigue and memory problems.
People who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea have an increased risk of hypertension, stroke, heart disease and accidents while driving or working.

Acid reflux, sleep apnea and heart palpitations can all be traced in some way to the food we eat. Changing your lifestyle is the most important thing in curing them, positional treatment and an alkaline diet having a fast beneficial effect.
